QuickView Modules are  aggregate surveys of your vessel's data.  QuickView modules allow you to open a specific data record or jump to specific related information by single-clicking in the appropriate row (Engine-Component QuickView is illustrated).  

 

In this QuickView the Engine-Component parent module is opened by clicking anywhere except the Vendor column, and clicking anywhere in the Vendor column opens the Vendor Address Book in Rotation.

 

All QuickViews allow you to sort information by column.  To sort, single click on any Blue column label (like Engine-Component, Task, Vendor,  etc.).  This will re-arrange (but not alter) your records.   For instance you might want to see the Vendors arranged together, or arrange the list by date first or date last, alphabetically  or reverse alphabetical, etc.

 

In some QuickViews you'll notice column headers with no background color indicating they cannot be sorted, as with the Inventory QuickView.

 

To discourage accidental erasure you must purposely enable the delete mode on any QuickView, and dialogs will ask you to confirm your decision. (See below)

 

A green record indicator (left column) and Bold type (across a non-archived row) indicates this record is Bookmarked, and a Bookmark indicates the record currently is in active Rotation.

 

Sometimes records are hidden from first view because they are archived or, in the case of inventory, because they are not due for restock.  Archived records and restock records can always be revealed by clicking the Show/Hide (Archive) Records button.  In this example all inventory is revealed (both restock and items not eligible for restock).  As in other QuickView types, archived records will be displayed with a gray background.

 

QuickViews will vary in their presentation depending on the type of information displayed.  The Inventory QuickView is the most detailed, and complicated.

 

QuickView modules also allow you to export data in generic Microsoft Word and Excel compatible formats from your Default Data file and/or delete multiple records.  If you choose to archive data (save to disk) you may add an Identifier (user specified) to the file name, thereby making any incarnation of the saved file unique.  

 

Information archived from the QuickViews are sent to (output files found in the VMS parent directory: C:\Program Files\VMSPro\ directory for non-Vista version installs, C:\EXPORT_IMPORT_VMS for the newer Vista installation.

 

Any file already saved will be replaced if assigned the same file name.  Because most modern word processors and spreadsheet programs recognize Word and Excel formats it's not necessary to have these programs installed.  Furthermore Microsoft supplies free viewers for these files, and Word documents produced by this method may be opened in Wordpad, a document processor available in any modern version of Windows.


 

 

When used in Delete mode, QuickView modules allow purging multiple events, like a group of records arranged by a single criteria (a range of older dates, for example). To delete a range, first sort the records by single-clicking on the Title bar of any column (Type is illustrated).  Then highlight the records that you want to delete by dragging your cursor (left mouse button held) down the records selector. (You may also click the record selector on the first or last record, hold your shift key, then click on a record that is the other end of the range).  

 

You may choose single or multiple records, then use your Delete key.  Be Careful!  You can't retrieve any records after deletion unless you've made a recent backup! .  Retrieval a partial set of records (as opposed to an entire Vessel) from a backup will be painful, but possible.  

 

You may not alter the records from within a QuickView.
