Importing Data from other VMS Versions

VMS Pro can import data other Generalist applications, such as the Standard Edition (Installed in the C:\Program Files\VMS3 directory), the version that was included with Nobeltec's Admiral (Installed in C:\Program Files\vms32k directory), Fleet Management System (Installed in C:\Program Files\fms\FMS_be.mdb) and VMS Professional, the current version.

So, for instance...

If you are going to import data from VMS Standard version, you must copy a file from the legacy computer originally found in the path C:\Program Files\VMS3. The data file is called vms3ebe.mdb.  The legacy data file must be copied from the legacy computer and placed on the Vista computer in the directory "C:\EXPORT_IMPORT_VMS".  If you attempt to import and the file is not found, VMS will warn you that the file doesn't exist so you can take another shot at it.

The import process for all versions is similar, so you must know only where your original data file resides and how to copy it to the Vista-version computer.  Note:  The "Vista Version" will also install on Windows XP, 2000, all Server editions, alone or in a network.

To begin the import process, check the box next to Activate Clear and Import Functions (bottom of the module).  You'll be asked again if this is a course you truly want to pursue, as you are enabling a function that will delete your Default Data file (making a backup would be prudent if you're not certain).  After answering in the affirmative the buttons above activate.  If you've entered no data previously (as in a fresh installation) you may proceed directly to import any of the versions specified in the import module.   If you've already entered data and wish to clean it out (trash it) before continuing, click the button Clear Default Data and Start Over.

Remember, if you think you made some bad choices in the import process you may simply wipe your default data and start over.  Just invoke these processes again, click the button Clear Default Data and Start Over, then re-import your data using different import options.
